 MATTHEW 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

 EMPOWERED TO ENGAGE

The Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:18-20, serves as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to spread love, hope, and teachings of Jesus Christ. This passage not only commissions us but also empowers us to engage with our communities in meaningful ways.

DIVINE AUTHORITY

The passage begins with Jesus declaring, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” This statement emphasizes the divine authority that Jesus holds, reinforcing the importance of His teachings. As followers, we are called to recognize this authority and align our lives with His mission. This acknowledgment invites us to approach our task with confidence, knowing that we are not acting alone but under the guidance of Christ.

NURTURING RELATIONSHIPS

Jesus instructs us to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” This command encourages us to reach out beyond our immediate circles, embracing diversity and inclusivity. It invites everyone—regardless of background or belief—to experience the love and teachings of Jesus. In making disciples, we are not just converting individuals; we are nurturing relationships built on trust, understanding, and shared values.

AN ONGOING PROCESS

The next part of the passage highlights the importance of baptizing and teaching. Baptism symbolizes a new beginning and a commitment to a life of faith. Teaching, on the other hand, involves sharing knowledge and wisdom, fostering a deeper understanding of Jesus’ teachings. This process is ongoing and requires patience, compassion, and a willingness to learn from one another. As we engage in this journey together, we create a supportive community where everyone can grow in their faith.

CONCLUSION

The Great Commission is a timeless call for all believers to engage in a mission of love, service, and discipleship. By embracing our shared responsibility, we can create a vibrant community that reflects the teachings of Jesus. As we go forth, let us remember that we are not alone; Jesus promises to be with us “to the end of the age.” This assurance empowers us to live out our faith boldly and compassionately, making a lasting impact on the world around us. Together, we can fulfill this divine calling and spread the message of hope and love to all.
