A SERIOUS BUSINESS
GENESIS 15:9-14
Genesis 15:9–21 (ESV):
9 He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. 11 And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
12 As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then the LORD said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. 14 But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.
Hi, welcome to The Stable Sanctuary
Genesis 15:9-14 describes a significant moment in the covenant between God and Abraham. In this passage, God instructs Abraham to bring specific animals for a sacrifice.
God tells Abraham to bring a heifer, a goat, and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon. This highlights the importance of sacrifice in establishing a covenant.
A BLESSED ASSURANCE
Abraham cuts the animals in half and arranges the halves opposite each other. This act symbolizes the seriousness of the covenant. Meaning that if either party fails to uphold their end, they would face dire consequences, much like the fate of the sacrificed animals.
After the sacrifice, God reveals to Abraham that his descendants will be strangers in a foreign land and will be enslaved for four hundred years. However, God assures Abraham that He will judge the nation that enslaves them and that Abraham’s descendants will ultimately inherit the land.
THE VALUE OF FAITH
This passage emphasizes the value of faith, hope and trust in God’s promises, and the assurance of God’s protection over Abraham’s lineage.Hebrews 11:8-10 shows how Abraham obeyed God,knew where to go[Canaan],but knew nothing about the place. To Abraham, the deal was heavenly. We always need to obey and put our trust in God.
THE PROMISE
In verses 15 and 16 of the same chapter,God grants a promise of peace as well as an assurance to Abraham concerning a long life. Our God is a promise keeper:He did it for Abraham; He shall do the same for us
