Walking on Water

Walking on Water

As followers of The Church of Jesus Christ, we are taught to live by faith. As we grow and deepen our understanding of the gospel, we learn to place all our trust in our Creator and let Him guide our path.

It sounds straightforward, doesn’t it?

Most of the time, when things are going well and blessings are flowing in, it’s easy to believe in the Lord.
We can see His hand working in our lives, and we are grateful for His care and provision.

But what happens when life becomes difficult and nothing seems to be going our way?

Can we still place our trust in God to lead us where we need to go?

Let me share a story from my own life when fear had me completely overwhelmed, and it felt like I couldn’t take one more step forward.

Life felt dark.

My thoughts were full of worstcase scenarios every day.I was scared.Scared of failing again.Depression was really affecting me.Too many changes in my life had me desperately searching for some kind of stability.I wanted God to catch me and bring me safely into His presence. But as the days went by, I started to feel like perhaps, just maybe, God was too far away to come to my help.I had lost my trust.I wanted things to get better, to return to a place where things feltgoodagain.I wanted to see clear proof of God’s presence in a very real and tangible way. When life didn’t go as I planned, I tried to take control of my own life as best as I could.

Can you guess how that ended?

You guessed it—nothing good!

But thankfully, I started to realize that I needed spiritual help.

I reached out to a minister I trusted.

I asked him to pray for me.

My fears had me completely stuck.I was trapped and spiraling out of control.I needed help, and I needed it now!

The God who created me and loves me from the very beginning of time certainly showed Himself in my situation.

Let me tell you what happened next.

The minister prayed for me over the phone.

After we hung up, he took some time to pray on his own for me, and he had a powerful experience:

He had a vision.

I was dressed in a beautiful white gown and standing on the shore, looking out at the water.Jesus was on the water, and He was calling, “My daughter, come.” As I looked directly at Jesus, I took my first step, and then another, and another—I was walking on water!

The vision continued.

As I kept walking, I started to feel fear, because now my eyes were focused on the water below.I shouted, “I can’t!I can’t!” and I began to sink beneath the surface.Jesus kept calling to me, asking me to look to Him and trust in Him.The vision ended.

Does this sound familiar?

It’s very similar to a story in the Bible, specifically in Matthew 14:28-31.
In that passage, Peter walks on water toward Jesus, but when he sees the wind, he becomes afraid and starts to sink.He calls out, “Lord, save me,” and Jesus reaches out to pull him back up.Jesus then says to Peter, “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

When we truly focus our eyes on Jesus, the fears and challenges in our lives fade into the background, and we can overcome everything with the help of Christ.

Why would we let ourselves sink into despair when Jesus invites us to come to Him?

I can imagine His long arm reaching out toward me, with a warm and loving smile on His face, waiting for me to reach out and take those important steps of faith toward Him.

Can you imagine this moment in your own life?

If I continued to rely on my own strength, I would always end up saying, “I can’t!”—just like in the vision.

When we talk about the God of the entire universe, the Great I AM, and the one who gave His life for you and for me, we can fully trust Him to support us as we navigate the difficult and uncertain parts of life.
Take your worries, your uncertainties, and every single concern you carry and lay them at His feet.Let go of the weight so that you can walk with freedom and confidence toward Jesus every single day of your life.

I remember the words, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

Have you ever experienced walking on water?

It’s amazing how God calls us to walk on the water, because it is there that we will find His powerful hand guiding and holding us.
Glory to God!
