NOW YOU ARE COME UNTO MOUNT ZION
THE HOLINESS OF GOD, REVERENCE AND GODLY FEAR
THE HOLINESS OF GOD
HEBREWS 12:18-29
Hebrews 12:18–29 (ESV): 18 For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest 19 and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. 20 For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” 21 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.
Hi, dear child of the mighty God. Welcome to the Stable Sanctuary, a place for your spiritual nourishment for effective growth and development. Once again, allow us to assure you that you are valuable in the sight of God Almighty. The above outlined scripture from the Holy Bible indicates to us much about the Holiness of GOD and how we can attain reverence and Godly fear that can lead us to the Throne of Grace. Faith is now; Hebrews 11:1 states that , ”Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This shows us that the Almighty God who has called us believes in us as His children. So we have to believe in Him. Being a Holy God, we also should have a high desire to become holy just like Him.
The Law was given to Moses to teach us about what God expects of us. In our human weakness, we could not keep the law according to the standard it required. This made God to send His dear Son Jesus Christ who kept the law and fulfilled its requirements. Ultimately, He went to die on the Cross , to nail the Law so as to set us free by the shedding of His precious blood. No lasting blessing can come to man through the law; but through Jesus Christ we are able to access all material and spiritual blessings. Verse 24 puts it very clearly, ”…Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things…”
It follows that we have to accept Him who speaks from heaven in order to escape his judgement that is sure to come. Now and Today, he is our advocate; one day he shall be our judge. In verse 26, The voice of God shook the earth at Mount Sinai to impress upon Israel the solemnity of the power and Holiness of God during that time. God does not change. He is the same God of Today and shall be so forever more. Oh! There comes a time when God shall shake Heaven and Earth to transfer the entire universe into a new and perfect creation. At that time, only faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on
the cross shall not be shaken. This means the Word of God and those into the Word dwells shall not be shaken forever!
REVERENCE AND GODLY FEAR.
Herein, we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved means our entrance into the kingdom of God has been made easier by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. “…He said, It is finished…”[John 19.30].
The ultimate price of sin was fully paid by His death on the cross. Grace is now availed to us all to serve God acceptably with much reverence and Godly fear knowing fully well, that our God gave us His very best to save our lives from eternal disgrace and everlasting damnation
Remember our God is a consuming fire; such that anything that is not anchored in faith and the work of the cross accomplished by Jesus Christ shall be consumed[1 Corinthians 3:13-15]
