AGAPE LOVE.
God’s love is usually referred to as Agape love. Beside this, there are also other kinds of love such as Philia love and Eros love. Eros love is between lovers- a husband and a wife, while Philia love is among family members. God has loved us ever since the beginning of creation till today. He is our Father always.
COMPASSIONATE LOVE
The holy bible in John 3.16 says,” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life”. This verse shows how Our God and Loving Father loved us compassionately despite the sinful nature that had become the norm.
It is really impossible for a human being to sacrifice his son so as to save others. But God in His unmeasurable , and unconditional love offered His very own and very best Jesus Christ so as He could die of our sins. Oh! What an unthinkable standard of love. God really loved us affectionately.
Another instance depicting The love of God is Romans 5:8 , “ But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This can be compared to a person who has gone to His neighbor to borrow money. As this person spends money in a way that does not please the lender, the lender decides to forgive his neighbor and set him free of the debt. The Lord gave us freedom of choice to choose between good and bad. Ass the world misused the freedom in committing sins, God decides to send Christ from heaven down to earth to suffer and die for the people of earth in order to redeem them. This is how deeply we are loved. God does not get tired with us. I am His child as much as you do. He wants you and I to be saved so that we are set free from the bondages of sin.
When you switch on TV or log in to your social media account and start seeing people arguing in a manner suggesting they hate each other, it is just a sign that they do not understand that both are children of the Most High and as brothers/sisters, they are supposed to show love for one another. It takes much less energy to love as compared to hating.
LOVE THAT ENDURES FOREVER
In Psalms 100:5, David writes that ,”For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations”. David had experienced how God had shown him love and mercy. Looking at his life, at one point we see God sending Prophet Nathan to David to tell him to repent of his sin of killing Uriah through a plot. Imagine God through a prophet looking for a lost soul! This cannot be taken for granted.
CHILDREN OF GOD
Being that we are God’s children, we have to understand that He chose to love us regardless of our sinful nature. The human generation was fully sinful, filthy of sin and yet Christ Jesus, the Son of the True Living God gave Himself to die on the cross for our sins. This kind of love is what every human craves for, but they do not find it because they are too busy looking for it in worldly matters. Pursuing righteousness can help you to deeply understand how the love of God works. You will really understand it if it is from a personal perspective.
I still have to continue emphasizing that this Agape love is mysterious. Again, MYSTERIOUS! It covers all your shortcomings and failures and makes everything possible. It worketh miracles. I wonder what kind of love this is!
Jeremiah 31:3
3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. 4 I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt. Again you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful.
The Bible excerpt showcased above explains how God’s love is deep, original and eternal. It is authentic and everlasting. God does not decrease His love for us. In all conditions, he loves us for whoever we are and whatever we have done.
A RANSOM FOR MANY
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many
God Himself has paid a ransom in order to receive us back to Himself. He has done this through His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
This paragraph displays how God loves us all . In simple language, a ransom refers to money demanded or paid for the safe release of a captive. Christ was offered as a living sacrifice to die for our sins to be taken away.
There is a short story I wanna share with you about this deep love. Due to passing from one to many different narrators, the may be a little or some differences in the story.
Once upon a time, there was a slave that was auctioned in a market alongside other slaves. A certain man came to the market, and each time the price went up he still insisted that he wanted the very particular slave whose price went on rising.
It reached a point when the slave became internally angry and even vowed in his heart to kill his buyer once they reached home. He really wondered what his master wanted from him that he was so ready to spend every penny he had on himself just to acquire this man.
Once the deal was done and he was handed over to his master, what his master did shocked him. HE ORDERED THAT HIS NEW SLAVE BE FREED AND LET GO. The slave had not expected this. Imagine how greatly he was shocked.
This is the same case for Christ and the world. The son of God died on the cross shamelessly so that he could purchase our freedom through his death. That action alone was priceless.
Whenever you are reading the Bible or praying or studying the word of God, pause and reflect on how deep he loves you despite your faultiness. Meditate upon His love and be thankful. Always appreciate this great love for you.
